• My Offerings

    Therapy

Although therapy can sometimes be about self improvement, it is generally problem-focused; that is, it starts with a diagnosis. My clients most often struggle with ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, gender dysphoria, grief, and other issues stemming from chronic isolation, early trauma, and toxic stress rooted in social oppression and alienation. I employ a variety of clinical approaches to these problems, but generally focus on shorter interventions (between 3-6 months).

    Psychospiritual Counseling

For many of us, the real problem isn’t a diagnosis or something a pill can medicate–because the problem isn’t individual. The problem is the human condition: the problems of evil, death, taxes. The problem of watching our species tear itself and the planet apart.

Often, a major life change (leaving a religious community, loss of a parent, social or medical transition) can bring these issues to a full existential crisis. Few clients I have worked with feel ready to directly confront their biggest existential fears. Few therapists I know address this type of crisis in a way that goes to the root of the problem. I aim to change that with anybody who is willing.

I have no agenda for the conclusions you find, nor do I come from a single faith-based perspective. My clients range from atheists to Voodoo practitioners. My approach is ecumenical and nonsectarian. I stand on a wealth of cross cultural knowledge, and two decades of serious spiritual study, practice, and contemplation in Christian, Buddhist, Daoist, and Hindu traditions. As a client-centered process, Psychospiritual counseling may include any of the following that you are interested in:

    • Bibliotherapy (reading spiritual, poetic, or mythic texts)
    • Value Identification
    • Journaling
    • Structured Contemplation
    • Divination (using methods such as I Ching, Tarot, other auguries)
    • Walking meditation
    • Qigong
    • Yoga
    • Pranayama (Breath meditation)
    • Prayer
    • Fasting
    • Formless meditation (zazen/sitting/vipassana)
    • Formal meditation (mantra recitation, visualization)

    Organizational Consultation

I am available to consult schools, nonprofits, startups, and companies who face a variety of issues which require sensitivity, expertise, and direct communication.

    • DEI: Diversity, equity, and inclusion are critical concerns for anyone of conscience. I can work in a preventative way to help you identify blind spots, vulnerabilities, and areas of friction that were hitherto unknown; I have also consulted organizations after a lawsuit, audit, grievance, or other problem brought an issue to light. I generally approach DEI issues from a restorative justice lens, and a Milan-group systems theory approach (frequently used for family therapy and organizational conflict).
    • Program Development: My clinical, relational, and social justice perspective can offer an invaluable sounding board in planning and development of training curricula, policy and procedure, and other organizational processes.
    • Mental Health & Human Resources: Most people struggle when somebody in an organization erratic or troubling behavior that causes concern but does not meet criteria for any disciplinary action. I can consult to provide insight about ethical routes of discussion.

    Clinical Supervision

Getting hours toward an LPCC or LCSW can be daunting, and healthcare and nonprofit supervisors often lack the time, energy, or experience to give quality supervision. I offer emotionally attentive supervision that not only helps you gain clinical competency and expertise, but attend to your own stress, burnout, countertransference and self care. Quality supervision can make the difference between thriving and burnout.

    Trainings & Workshops

I provide training regularly for both lay audiences and professionals, in particular social workers, counselors, nurses, physicians, teachers, and school staff. I have extensive (6 hour) and brief (1-2 hour) trainings prepared for a variety of topics, mainly targeted at professionals.

    • Assertiveness and Navigating Conflict
    • Dysfunctional Family Dynamics
    • Suicide Prevention
    • Working with Transgender/Gender Non-conforming Youth
    • Gender Basics
    • Restorative Justice
    • Human Sexuality
    • Empathy and Compassion Fatigue
